Welcome to 2013 in Queen of Angels School Library!
RADICAL READERS Prepare for the READING OLYMPICS!
The 2013 Queen of Angels Reading Olympics Team has chosen "Radical Readers" as their new name. They are now meeting every Thursday at lunch recess in the school library. In order to prepare for the MONTCO Reading Olympics this spring, each team member is reading and reporting on some of the 45 assigned books. Each team member should read at least one book per month and turn in a report form, so they can receive credit on the Reading Olympics chart, and discuss the book with other team members at the meetings.
WE ARE THANKFUL TO A GENEROUS FRIEND
We are most grateful to Mrs. Sandra Moran who recently donated 108 new books to the Queen of Angels School Library in memory of her dear husband, Frank Moran, and other relatives. Mr. Frank Moran, a 1956 graduate of St. David School and a U.S. Navy Veteran, passed away on July 17th, 2012. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Moran generously requested contributions be used to purchase library books for our students. May she receive much comfort and many blessings for her kindness to us!
SEPTEMBER 2012 LETTER TO OUR SCHOOL FAMILIES
Dear Families:
In Queen of Angels School Library, students will find books that delight, that challenge, that nourish their inner world. Combining resources from St. David’s and Our Lady Help of Christians, they now have over 7700 books to choose!
Please help your children become independent library users. Show them how to care for their books at home. Remind them to return books promptly each week at library class. Lost or damaged books must be paid for in full before another book may be borrowed.
Please read to your child as often as possible. During read-aloud times you provide a shared warmth and one-on-one linguistic attention that is irreplaceable. You model good reading. Students need to see their family members reading too.
Tell stories, play word games, recite poetry, share phrases in another language. Keep alive their enthusiasm for the spoken word!
Discuss with your older children both what they read and what they see in the media. Does it reflect or ignore Catholic social teachings?
Please introduce your children to the wonderful resources of the public library system. You can access public library catalogs online from home. A public library card is free and fun to use. It invites students into a community of lifelong learners.
Please contact me with any school library questions or concerns. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Patricia Cooney

LIBRARY BOOK REPORTS
Each trimester, Grades 4 to 8 will be assigned one book report, each covering different genres and library skills. Students will choose books from a selected list in the school library. A specific book report form will be used and explained for each assignment.
In each report I will evaluate:
1) What does the student understand about the story? (Don’t include someone else’s opinion, or an outside review.)
2) Can the student write about the story in a clear, organized, and factual way?
Students must:
